Carlsberg City District Deploys the JMA Wireless TEKO DAS
for Powerful Cellular Communications

Sustainable Environment Incorporates Innovative Solution

Amsterdam, Netherlands – February 22, 2017 – JMA Wireless, a global leader of wireless communications solutions, is the driving force behind the robust mobile connectivity at the Carlsberg City District. This new sustainable city district, on the original site of the famous Carlsberg Brewery, is minutes from the center of Copenhagen and includes 101,000 m2 of space dedicated to housing, commercial offices, shops, restaurants, underground parking and the new Carlsberg Campus for UCC university college. To ensure powerful cellular coverage for the many students, employees and residents, system integrator, KM Telecom, deployed the multi-band, multi-carrier TEKO DAS (distributed antenna system) platform from JMA Wireless.

Supplying robust cellular capacity and coverage across an urban environment sprinkled with new and old structures, such as Carlsberg City District, required a powerful solution. The TEKO DAS supports four mobile operators - TDC, 3, Telia, and Telenor as well as the 1800 and 2100 bands. Even though the operators did not join the network at the same time, the engineering team was able to accommodate them easily with the flexible TEKO DAS platform.

During this initial deployment phase, the TEKO DAS supports three sectors with eight high-power remote units (RUs) and 191 antennas. This solution is extremely efficient because only a single optical fiber is used per remote unit to connect it to the master unit (MU). Each fiber can deliver up to five European bands. Further efficiencies were achieved thanks to the ability to configure each remote unit from a single administrative interface at the MU. This same administrative interface can be used for future firmware updates too. KM Telecom had the wireless system operational within four months, completing it in time for the students’ first day of classes.

In between classes the UCC students often gather in the campus’ courtyard to catch up in person as well as on their mobile devices.

To overcome any issues regarding the interference between the macro and DAS networks the iBwave simulation tool was used during the installation process. This in-building tool resulted in smarter planning, design and deployment of the DAS.
