JMA Wireless Launches C-DAS with Sector Capacity Manager

A new version of the JMA Teko platform reduces core cellular resources by up to 25% in metropolitan and campus areas

Hollywood, FL [PCIA Wireless Infrastructure Show] – April 29, 2015 -- JMA Wireless, a global innovator of wireless communications solutions, launched today at PCIA’s Wireless Infrastructure show an evolution of its Teko DAS (Distributed Antenna System) platform that provides significantly better utilization of core processing resources to enable cellular coverage for metro and campus areas.  This next iteration or C-DAS (Centralized Distributed Antenna System) solution enables centralized RAN serving locations or central BTS hotels to support surrounding venues, thus preserving valuable onsite real estate that can often be limited or better utilized for services other than technology infrastructure.  The C-DAS solution converges multiple operators and their respective bands onto a minimum set of fiber to reduce the required connectivity to venues, and with an integral supervisory channel across the fiber the entire campus or metro area can be managed centrally.

“Demand for capacity across dense metro and campus areas is the next frontier in growth,” stated Nick Marshall, Research Director at ABI Research.  “Solutions such as Centralized-DAS, that can more efficiently utilize sector capacity and provide more cost effective solutions are critical to the next wave of indoor and outdoor DAS business.”

Many campus environments and metro areas include sport stadiums, business offices, and other venues that require different levels of service over a period of time.  The Teko platform now offers capacity management with its new TCM3-4 Capacity Manager module and its TWS4 four port RF switch module.  The modules provide complete flexibility, enabling the C-DAS architecture to be designed for reutilization of sectors across the campus or metro areas and support a reduction in head-end eNodeB equipment by up to 25%.  The Teko C-DAS architecture with Capacity Manager utilizes minimal fiber - only one fiber is needed per remote even when capacity management is being used.  As an example, engineers can now redirect sectors from a business center normally used during the week to a stadium during game day on a week-end.  Transitions are streamlined because these configurations are facilitated via Teko’s OMT (Operation and Maintenance Terminal), minimizing manual intervention and facility visits to enable reuse of capacity.

“Many metro areas and campuses are looking at their stadiums being used 6 to 20 times per year maximum,” said Todd Landry, Corporate Vice President of Product and Market Strategy at JMA Wireless.  “By utilizing C-DAS with capacity management they can now leverage sector resources during non-game days to service surrounding facilities such as business centers.”

Besides offering the fastest growing DAS solutions, JMA Wireless’ extensive portfolio also includes universal compression connectors, a variety of antenna options, and factory-built jumpers, which are PIM optimized and engineered for macro, small cell, outdoor DAS and in-building DAS needs.  The world-renowned universal compression connectors utilize a patented active compression technology, which eliminates PIM, installs in 1 minute and guarantees long term reliability.  Attendees can experience these solutions at the JMA Wireless booth (209/308) at the Wireless Infrastructure Show.

C-DAS fiber solutions are available today while the Capacity Management (TCM3-4) and Switch (TSW4) modules will be in the market starting June 2015.
