RioMar Mall ensures customers and retailers have robust cellular communications

Liverpool, NY – November 24, 2015 – Since opening its doors the RioMar Mall in Fortaleza, Brazil has been supplying its 385 stores, 40 food operators and millions of customers with powerful wireless coverage.  It stands as one of the largest malls in Latin America with 330,000 square meters of retail space.  JMA Wireless, a global leader of wireless communications solutions, in conjunction with its integration partner, HUBER+SUHNER, made this superior mobile connectivity possible by deploying the flexible JMA Teko DAS (Distributed Antenna System).

The modular Teko DAS provides cellular coverage and capacity for in-building as well as outdoor environments.  One of its main components, the rack mounted Master Unit (MU), is future proofed so it easily supports current as well as new technologies.  Only a single optical fiber cable is used to simultaneously distribute multiple frequency bands and multiple carriers from the Master Unit to one or more Remote Units (RUs) ranging from very high power to low power.  The amount of optical fiber needed to support the Teko DAS is 50 percent to 75 percent less than competitive offerings in the market today, making it an extremely cost effective and efficient solution.

The mobile network at RioMar supports 2G, 3G and 4G technologies from four main cellular service providers – CLARO, OI, TIM and VIVO.  This is the first time in Brazil that a wireless network from day one supported all four mobile operators.  In addition, the AMPS850, DCS1800, UMTS2100 and LTE2600 frequency bands are covered by the network.  Certain areas in the mall such as the food court have 2X2 MIMO in the LTE2600 band to ensure powerful cellular connectivity is maintained.  Furthermore, there are 24 Very High Power Remote Units.  Eight of the Remote Units are multi-band supporting 850 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz while 16 only support 2600 MHz.
